What it actually is
Composition, not claims.
You have almost certainly been sent a supplier deck full of diagrams and arrows pointing into a cross-section of skin. We are not going to send you one. Here is what is in the syringe, in the concentration it is in, and how it behaves on the bench.
A polynucleotide is a purified DNA fragment.
Polynucleotides are chains of nucleotides — the same building blocks that make up DNA. The ones used in skin boosters are purified and sterilised from salmon, which is why you will see the category written as salmon DNA or, on our carton, sodium DNA. That is a description of what is in the syringe, not a claim about what it does.
Chain length and concentration are the two numbers that differ.
Products in this category vary enormously in how much polynucleotide they actually contain and how long the chains are. Most suppliers do not publish either figure. MonaLisa PN 30 is a long-chain polynucleotide at 30 mg/mL and MonaLisa PH is 20 mg/mL alongside 10 mg/mL of cross-stabilised hyaluronic acid. Both are printed on the carton.
It is a cosmetic serum, applied to the skin.
MonaLisa is a topical cosmetic product. It is applied to the surface of the skin during the needling appointment your clinic already runs, using the device and the settings your operators already use. It is not injected, it is not a therapeutic good, and it does not sit in the ARTG.

We do not tell you this serum stimulates anything, rebuilds anything, or works at any particular depth. Not because we are being coy — because the moment a supplier says those things, the product stops being a cosmetic and becomes an unapproved therapeutic good.
That is not our problem to carry. It becomes yours: it is your clinic holding the stock, your name on the treatment, and your registration attached to the claim if a patient repeats it back to a regulator. Suppliers in this category who lead with mechanism diagrams are handing that risk to their customers.
