Permanent reduction
across every skin type.
Hair reduction is the steadiest revenue line in any aesthetic clinic — predictable course length, predictable patient outcome, predictable repeat business. The Octave covers the full Fitzpatrick range with IPL for types I–IV and long-pulse 1064 nm Nd:YAG for types V–VI, where IPL is unsafe.
“I want it to actually work this time. Last clinic gave up on me halfway through the course.”
Mode-of-action,
explained simply.
The primary hair-reduction filter. 640 nm long-pass cutoff preferentially targets follicular melanin via selective photothermolysis. Default filter for Fitzpatrick I–III.
Higher cutoff for Fitzpatrick III–IV. Excludes shorter wavelengths that would otherwise be absorbed by epidermal melanin — reducing the risk of burns and PIH.
Reserved for Fitzpatrick IV–V under cautious, low-fluence parameters. Sub-pulse trains allow epidermal cooling between pulses while keeping the follicle thermally engaged.
The right tool for Fitzpatrick V–VI. 1064 nm penetrates deeper, bypasses epidermal melanin, and is manufacturer-indicated for use on all skin types — making your clinic genuinely inclusive.
A treatment journey
that scales with the patient.
Each Power to Practice indication ships with a written, editable protocol — built around realistic patient outcomes and the operator workflow of an Australian aesthetic clinic.
- 01Consult & Fitzpatrick typing
Type at baseline — not on currently tanned skin. Confirm no sun exposure or self-tan for 3–4 weeks. Confirm no waxing, plucking or threading for 4–6 weeks. Shaving only.
- 02Patient prep (every visit)
Area shaved 12–24 hours prior. Skin clean and dry, no make-up, deodorant, moisturiser, SPF or self-tan. Patient and operator wear appropriate eyewear at all times.
- 03Treatment course (6–12 sessions)
Sessions spaced 6–10 weeks apart depending on body region. Energy ramps up across the course as the response is established. Cooling gel pre-treatment, cold compress post-treatment.
- 04Top-up sessions
Annual or bi-annual touch-ups for the patient who wants long-term smoothness. This is where the recurring revenue lives.

Common questions from clinics.
Can I treat Fitzpatrick VI patients safely?
Not with IPL — IPL is generally unsafe in Fitzpatrick VI regardless of filter choice. The Octave's long-pulse 1064 nm Nd:YAG handpiece is manufacturer-indicated for use across all skin types including deeply pigmented skin, and is the correct modality for Fitzpatrick V–VI hair reduction.
How do I avoid burns and PIH on darker skin types?
Three-part rule: (1) higher filter cutoff for darker skin — 690 or 755 nm rather than 640. (2) Lower starting fluence and ramp slowly across sessions. (3) Sub-pulse trains for epidermal cooling. The Octave supports 1–15 sub-pulses per shot with operator-adjustable delay, which is the meaningful safety advantage over single-pulse IPL devices.
What's the typical course length?
6–12 sessions at 6–10 week intervals depending on body region. Permanent reduction is the target outcome — not permanent removal. Set this expectation explicitly in the consult to avoid satisfaction issues at the end of the course.
Can I run hair reduction ads on Meta and Google?
Yes. Hair reduction is a device-based indication. Be careful with before/after imagery under AHPRA's professional advertising framework, and use compliant claim language — "permanent reduction", not "permanent removal".
